Clearing the Drain for Change

From Jacke

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6:26

Ranch work entails a diverse amount of responsibilities, one of which is clearing out the irrigation canals into my pond. Although it’s a labor of love for me, this particular day, it was necessary to clear out slimy debris and a few unlucky critters! Being unplugged from technology, surrounded by green grass, snow-covered mountains, and water bodies, reel me into the present, even if it’s unpleasant! It’s then that God provides me one of His analogy downloads!

To the west of me are the Oregon Cascade Mountains that are snow-covered most of the year despite the rising temperatures in the Summer. I looked up at those mountains and then to the water flowing into my irrigation and smiled. He wastes nothing! The snow melts and is then repurposed to flow into the ground, rivers, and lakes and then to the canal that sits before me.

Nature is a demonstration of change and repurposing right before our eyes! Frogs, salamanders, caterpillars, grasshoppers, dragonflies all go through the natural process of metamorphosis. On the extreme side, we are familiar with a plethora of natural disasters. Forest fires, hurricanes, landslides, and then in a short amount of time, life begins to resurface.

So, how about resurfacing from our devastating Landslide? The unforeseen moment that you learned that your child passed away. It seems virtually impossible to believe that you’re going to be able to go on. How is it possible that your life will continue to have a purpose?

Revisit today’s scripture and realize that you are more valuable than the plants, animals, and insects. Your precious testimony and desire to get out of bed daily is a beacon of light onto this world, Beloved! Make the most of every day, everyone here, including your child goes through a metamorphosis of sorts into the Kingdom of Heaven! I yearn to hear,

“His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’ Matthew 25:23

Author of the book, Resurfacing, a twelve-week hope-filled guide designed to share with other grieving moms and the Just Be Journal for grieving moms. Jacke, a grieving mother herself and a self-induced adventure junkie with a passion for life, found refuge in an off-grid treehouse on the island of Hawaii, where she wrote the book. No stranger to personal trials, in January of 2016, she faced an overwhelming obstacle, the death of her 30-year old son, Randy, to suicide, a tragedy that left her, as well as his grieving wife and two young sons, devastated. Through all of this, Jacke continues to face challenges with a tenacious spirit of hope, which she brings to others through her retreats, Facebook Live, Zoom, and speaking engagements. Having blended these life challenges and passions, she has created a life she truly loves, using her talents to encourage others to find balance and purpose amid life's darkest moments. Jacke currently lives in Bend, Oregon, which she refers to as her giant playground for extreme sports and, most importantly, God's gift after losing her son to fulfill her love of the mountains. She named her ranch, The Just Be Ranch welcoming all who visit to Just Be themselves and breathe.
